The biggest issue we've had, even with homologous antigen, is that antibody detection on CL cases is inconsistent. Both between individuals and at different time points with the same individual. These observations were made many years ago. With new and more sensitive techniques things can change.

The accepted idea of no antibodies in cutaneous leishamaniasis is incorrect. They definitely do occur in some but not all cases. However, they may be missed if the wrong antigen is used. The greatest chance of detecting them is to use the homologous antigen.
