[Leish-l] new: phlebotomine sandflies live in the digestive track of dogs!

Seen on the last issue of the (excellent ) french newspaper Liberation , a  
paper about some of  all the zoonosis that people can contact( in France  the w
ar has been declared against  avian flu) . Unfortunately the author in  not a 
leishmaniac. Note also that Leishmania is a virus.

 Le soleil se couche, c'est l'heure où le phlébotome, petit  insecte velu aux 
gros yeux jaunes vivant dans l'intestin du chien, pique l'homme  qui passe et 
lui transmet incidemment Leishmania infantum. Une maladie virale  difficile à 
traiter, qui se traduit par une fièvre, un amaigrissement, une  inflation de 
la rate, et parfois la mort. La leishmaniose, qui peut être  mortelle, fait 
une vingtaine de victimes par an en France métropolitaine,  surtout dans le Sud, 
et pas de vaccin.
