Dear Dr. Kendrick,
Yes, the vaccine is already marketed. At least in Salvador/Bahia.
Name: Leishmune
Price: R$80,00 ~ 30 USD per dose, for healthy, seronegative dogs > 4
months old 3 doses 21 days appart
Frequency of boosters: 1 year after (and so on).
And any opinions of its efficacy: sorry dont have personal experience
with the vaccine; just have the folder in front of me, it says 92 to 95%
efficacy.
Approved by Ministry of Health in June 11 2003 register 8627

Assunto: [leish-l] Vaccines for canine leishmaniasis
Can anyone please tell me if a vaccine against canine leishmaniasis
(CanL) is on the market in Brazil (or elsewhere)? When I was last in
Brazil, the commercial firm Fort Dodge (of the USA) was about to put one
on the market in Brazil, but I don't know if they did. (This vaccine is
the one published by Oliveira da Sila et al. (2001). Vaccine, 19:
1082-1092). I have e-mailed Fort Dosge and asked them this question, but
they did not reply (nice people!) Is it on the market? If so, what is it
called? Price? Frequency of boosters? And any opinions of its efficacy?
Many thanks for any information on any CanL vaccine on any market. Bob
