It is my saddest duty to inform you that Professor Jean-Antoine Rioux
passed away on the 17th March in Montpellier, France.

Pr Rioux was one of the greatest figures of leishmaniasis eco-epidemiology
and taxonomy. he was famous all over Europe, North Africa, Near-East and
Latin America.

His bright intelligence, his extreme sense of 'rigour', his constant
questioning of hypotheses and convictions, his immense scientific culture
and his incredibly passionate temperament, persisted until the end of his
life and remain in our memories. They made him a great man of science – one
you seldom cross paths with in your life, and whom you cannot forget once
you met him.

Our deepest sympathetic thoughts go to his family. Condolences and
testimonies may be sent to his two sons, Olivier and Philippe (
philipperioux at aol.com; o.rioux at gazettedemontpellier.fr) and grand-children.

Regards
