[Leish-l] spleen

Dear, Carlos. 

As we know, there is a higher production of IL-10 and IL-4 in a Th2 response, increasing the possibility of VL becoming symptomatic, due to inhibition of macrofages activation, allowing the intracellular replication of Leishmania . 
In VL-HIV/AIDS coinfection, splenomegaly is less frequent, due to fail in macrophage proliferative response, clinical manifestaions are atypical and there are worse outcomes (more deaths and relapses). 
If splenectomy would cure calazar is a doubt, because others organs from monophagocytic system might continue producting IL-10, perpetuating symptomatic infection.
