[Leish-l] VL comes to Brazil’s Capital

   The headlines of one of Brasilia’s leading newspapers, the Correio 
Braziliensis (14/11/2006), drew attention to the first fatal VL case in the 
Federal District.   Previously 4 other cases had been reported and 
successfully treated. All the cases are from a rural area of the Federal 
District close to a satellite town called Sobradinho. This is yet another 
example of how the disease is spreading in Brazil in spite of the control 
measures. It also draws attention to the continued difficulties of 
diagnosis.
