Dear colleagues,
Dr Raul Guerra de Queiroz died aged 39 on the morning of 7 September 2004 while undergoing treatment for cancer in the city of Fortaleza. Raul was consolidating a group here at the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (INPA), specializing in the immature forms of </Lutzomyia/> and the use of laboratory colonies to address questions of taxonomy and population diversity. He is survived by his parents and several students whom he was supervising.
