Database of Sand Fly Species in Colony

Hi Phil:
There's a guy named Reginaldo Roris Cavalcanti (Ph.D student) at the
Universidade Federal
de Minas Gerais here in Belo Horizonte who has thriving colonies of Lu.
longipalpis (from Piaui State)
and Lu. migonei.
Once again, I think it's at least as important to work out how to export
this colony material legally and
fairly, to ensure that the genetic patrimony of a country isn't exploited.
Sand flies aren't as attractive as
hyacinthine macaws but their genes might be a lot more lucrative.
At the risk of sounding like a heretic, I wish there was more interest in
studying the behaviour of these and
other medically important insects in nature - too much "field work" simply
involves collecting material to set
up a colony or process in a lab.
As ever, best wishes,
Bruce
