This is extremely sad. Douglas Barker was pioneer in the molecular biology of Leishmania and brought a lot in the field. His passionate temper and strong character, together with his friendship, his generosity and good humour, have remained in my memories for decades. He was certainly one of the most endearing researchers in our field.
