I am replying to Carlos Costa's query re vector abundance versus density  

An abundance signifies a large quantity of something.
When the CDC  light trap catches a vector in abundance that means the count is high.

The quantity of sand flies caught in a light trap or on a wall should, in my opinion, be accounted for by number or count, i.e. vector number or vector count. 
It is from that number or count that vector density can be estimated
 - as measured by a particular method (trap), 
 - in a given location (dwelling) or,
 - for example, at the population level in a given season.

Capturing vectors on a wall, for instances, may be a direct measurement of
vector density, but when capturing in a CDC light trap is sounds better to
me to use vector abundance.

What do the entomologists and epidemiologists think?
