All:

It is with great sadness and shock that I write this. Bruce and I went way
back. He was always a great joy to be around. We first met as graduate
students at the University of Florida in the early 80's. Following
graduation roughly a decade passed before we ran into each other again at
CIDEIM. I had the opportunity to spend a considerable amount of time with
Bruce collecting Lutzomyia longipalpis at field sites throughout Colombia.
These were some of the best experiences of my career. He was a great field
biologist, with vast knowledge of the natural history of sand flies. With
his help we made successful collections from every site we visited. But it
was the time in the evening after work that form the basis of my fondest
memories of Bruce. Probably best to skip the details but suffice to say
that those memories never fail to bring a smile to my face. Although I have
not seen Bruce for quite some time now knowing that he is no longer around
makes my world a less happy place.

My deepest and most sincere condolences go to all his other friends and
family.
