> 2016 Baltimore Vector Encounter – June 9 th and 10 th

> The Baltimore Vector Encounter is an annual meeting that brings
> together scientists interested in vector biology. Different from the
> normal scientific meeting, it focuses on personal interactions
> rather than presentations of primary data.

> ABOUT THE ENCOUNTER
> The Encounter originated in 1996, motivated by the lack of venues for
> vector biologists to interact in a relaxed atmosphere.
> The idea behind the Baltimore Vector Encounter is to capitalize on
> the small scale of the event by:

> * maximizing informal interactions during extended breaks
> * minimizing formal presentations - no presentation of primary data

> This is not a traditional scientific gathering... everyone can catch
> up with the hard data at one of the bigger meetings!
> Many collaborations between laboratories have started as a direct
> result of these Encounters, and interactions between laboratory
> directors and students have resulted in offers of postdoctoral
> positions.

> MEETING FORMAT
> The Encounter focuses on discussion of ideas rather than on
> presentation of data. The talks are short and the program has
> generous break time to maximize interactions.
> Each laboratory, large or small, has a 10-15 minute slot to present a
> chalk talk during which the head of the lab outlines present and
> future research directions and describes the most exciting results
> from the lab. In general, the talks focus on ideas for research
> directions and plans for the immediate future. It is often more
> useful to discuss what one plans to do than what has already been
> done.
> Chalk talk is the only format used for presentations - no projection
> equipment of any kind is available.

> Registration deadline: May 1, 2016
