In Cyprus, where L. infantum is endemic ONLY in the dog population and
where L. donovani MON-37 has emerged recently, causing cutaneous and
visceral leishmaniasis in the human population, out of 20 canine
isolates studied one was found co-infected with both: L. infantum and L.
donovani.

causing visceral or cutaneous leishmaniasis in Europe: Cyprus evidence
is an alarm call. Lancet Infect Dis. 2008 Jan;8(1):6-7.)

> Please note that molecular techniques are not reliable to distinguish between infantum and donovani, which makes dubious the data of this type drawn from molecular ID. The ones quoted above were dont by isoenzymes.
