[leish-l] Brazil's Challenge - Leishmaniasis

In one of his first declarations Brazil's new Health Minister, Humberto 
Sérgio Costa Lima, who was a past health secretary for Recife, Pernambuco, 
declared that one of the challenges was to combat the leishmaniasis 
epidemic (Correio Braziliense - 21.12.02). The report did not mention which 
form of leishmaniasis but it is most likely that he was referring to 
visceral rather than cutaneous leishmaniasis. There has been a significant 
increase in the number of VL cases during recent years.
