Hereby I want to thank Juergen Berger and Peter Overath for allowing 
me to use their beautiful photograph of trypanosomes in a smear of 
infected blood, which now has appeared on the cover of the latest 
issue of the Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA. Although African 
trypanosomes in reality are white, I think their blue colour on the
