It is a pleasure to inform you that Steve Reed joins me in supporting
Luigi's proposal to have Worldleish3 in Sicily. We would like to back up
our support with a nominal donation from Infectious Disease Research
Institute (IDRI). The amount to be communicated later.

>Dear Ziya (and dear all),
>this is a formal application to host WorldLeish3 in Sicily, Italy. The
>Director of the "Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Sicilia
>(IZS)", Dr Santo Caracappa, has expressed the willingness to take care of
>the organization in terms of meeting facilities and financing aspects. He
>has great experience in the organization of national and international
>scientific meetings involving over 1,000 participants. He is also a
>leishmaniac: the institution he heads has been recently appointed as a
>national reference centre for canine leishmaniasis.
>Marina, Michele and myself (i.e. the leishmaniacs from Istituto Superiore
>di Sanità in Rome) will support him in the meeting organization.
>
>Following your suggested point-by-point items:
>
>(a) The location is a tourist village close to Palermo, the head town of
>Sicily. Participants may fly to the international airport either directly
>(from several countries) or via Rome or Milan.
>
>b) The congress centre has a plenary session room for 7-800 participants,
>plus eight rooms for 150 participants. All modern congress facilities are
>available.
>
>c) There are already several financing bodies which may support the
>meeting. Both registration fees and the cost for participant's accomodation
>are expected to be much lower than in WorldLeish2 (around 200 Euro and 50
>Euro/night, respectively).
>
>d) I understand the BoB's concern that it's time to change the site after 2
>meetings held in the Mediterranean. However, for big meetings like this
>other aspects have priority, such as financial, logistic, security, etc.
>The extraordinary ospitality of Sicilian people, the historical and natural
>beauty of this land, and the old tradition in leishmaniasis studies (the
>Palermo school of medicine introduced the antimonial treatment of VL for
>the first time, in 1915), should be also taken into account.
>
>Looking forward to see positive comments posted in the website,

>Ciao,
