According to Gade (1979), the word 'uta' comes from the word 'hutu' (Quechua
for 'rotten maize').

Gade DW (1979) Inca and colonial settlement, coca cultivation and endemic
disease in the tropical forest. Journal of Historical Geography 5, p. 272.
