XXXIV Specialization Course in Tropical Medicine.

This is the first announcement of the XXXIV Specialization Course in
Tropical Medicine. Please make public in your institution.

The Institute of Tropical Medicine of São Paulo will promote, from May 03rd
to July 03rd from 1999, the XXXIV version of their Tropical Medicine
Specialization course, an course recognized by the University of São Paulo,
the largest university in South American countries. This course will be
destined to physicians. 
The course, with 09 weeks extent and 400 hs of classes, will be conducted
in all-day schedule, in Portuguese speech., with regular classes,
laboratory work, supervised visits to clinics(40hs), aside round tables and
seminars. The discussed matters concentrate in the recent advances in
Tropical diseases, specially those with higher incidence in the South
America, mainly devoted to the study of the several agents, its diagnosis,
in the pathogenetic mechanisms, therapy and prevention of the Tropical
diseases. An special effort has been made to introduce concepts in
epidemiology, Public Health and statistics. 
The course will be divided in 4 disciplines (360hs)  beyond  supervision
from the period of  training in wards and emergency services in Tropical 
Infectious Diseases (40hs). Disciplines activities includes regular classes
(240hs), seminar and group discussions (80hs) and practice  in  Laboratory
(40hs). 
Requisites:
Graduation in Medicine proofed. Regular medical licence are not necessary,
due the absence of direct patient care in the course.
Good health, no insurance  provided
Selection criteria
The candidates selection will be based by analysis of their Curriculum
vitae, with the following priorities:
a- Students from abroad São Paulo and Brazil
b- Involvement with research or clinical practice in Tropical Disease,
Epidemiology or Public Health,
c- Formal indication by accredited course of medical residence in
Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine or Infectious Diseases,
d-Formal indication by Public Health or other governamental institutions,
with previous contact.
Maximal size of the class:
15 (fifteen)  students (minimum)
30( thirty )  students (maximum)
Language
Portuguese. Spanish speaken students presented similar performance than
brazilian students
Brazilian visa
To the ellected foreign students, the Secretary furnishes all adequate
documentation in order to obtain the brazilian visa in the pre-selection
moment, that are provided by the brazilian diplomatic agencies in their
origin countries.
Contribute to the course more than 100 specialists, acting in the several
areas of Tropical Medicine, both from the Instituto de Medicina Tropical of
São Paulo or from the Dermatology, Preventive Medicine, Infectious and
Parasitic Diseases and Pathology departments from the Faculty of Medicine
of University of São Paulo. In specific fields, we also invite specialists
from other universities and research institutes from Brazil and Latin
America. 
The desired result is the capacitation of new professionals in the recents
concepts and scientific advances in Tropical Diseases, promoting both a
better research and better people care in the Tropics. 
Information about maintenance in São Paulo City during the course.
	The cost of living in São Paulo, including housing and food,  is estimated
in US$ 2000,00, during the two months course. The student will provide his
maintenance, and no funding support could be provided by the course.

Paulo/SP – 09:00-15:30 hs, with taxs payment The taxes are U$ 300,00 (Three
hundred American dollars), for  personally supported students, or US$
600,00(Six hundred american dollars) institutionally supported ones,
