A friend of mine here in Belo Horizonte had a schnautzer diagnosed as
having VL and instead of having the animal (which looked very healthy)
destroyed she tried using an Italian product called Amminofarma at the
recommended dose (0.6-1.2 ml/10 kg, equivalent to 10.5-21 mg/kg
aminosidine sulphate) and following the manufacturer's instructions
for treatment of canine leishmaniasis. The animal didn't respond
to this treatment and the VL diagnosis was confirmed by autopsy. The
manufacturers claim that the drug suppresses clinical symptoms but
doesn't kill Leishmania.
