Colleagues,

The Smithsonian Institutions's Laboratory of Molecular Systematics wishes
to invite speakers for its Fall 1997 Seminar Series. The Laboratory of
Molecular Systematics is a program of the Smithsonian's National Museum of
Natural History and was created in 1988 to apply state-of-the-art molecular
methods to the study of systematics and evolutionary biology. Principal
investigators at LMS include Drs. Michael Braun (vertebrates), Elizabeth
Zimmer (plants and allies), and David Swofford (PAUP, molecular
phylogenetics). LMS is also home to numerous Ph.D. students and
post-doctoral fellows.

Seminar topics at LMS vary over a wide range of evolutionary and
theoretical topics with emphasis upon molecular systematic issues, methods,
and research projects. LMS staff have a wide variety of interests ranging
from prokaryotes, plants, animals, and phylogenetic method and theory.

We would like to invite interested researchers to present seminars at LMS
for Fall 1997. Members of LMS, the National Museum of Natural History,
other Smithsonian Institutions, and members of institutions in the greater
Washington, DC area will attend. All speakers are welcome, especially
recent doctoral graduates or doctoral students nearing defense. Travel
funds are not available.

If interested in presenting a seminar at LMS, please contact Dr. Andrew G.
McArthur (mcarthur at onyx.si.edu). Please distribute this notice in your
institution.
