At the XIIIth International Congress for Tropical Medicine and Malaria, held
in Pattaya, Thailand, 1992, there were 2 abstracts about folk treatments .
1. Abstract We01-5 by Dr A M Fata of Dept of Parasitology, Emam Reza Medical
School, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran. Title was on
the effect of juice of Euphorbia myrcinites on promastigotes; they state
that inhabitants of Khorassan have used this juice for ages on CL sores.
They reckon it is good stuff.
2. Abstract We01-6 by Drs A Gebre-Hiwot / D Frommel from the Armauer Hansen Research
Institute, Ethiopia. They showed extracts from a number of traditional East
African medicinal plants have activity against L donovani amastigotes.
