Dear Dr Gottleib,

I am pleased to inform you that under the auspices of the
UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training
in Tropical Diseases (TDR) and the Fundacion Oswaldo Cruz
(FIOCRUZ), Rio de Janeiro, a joint planning meeting of
Trypanosoma cruzi, Leishmania and African trypanosomes Genome
Networks will be meeting in Rio de Janeiro 14-15 April 1994.

The objectives of the meeting are:

1. Select the organism to bre used in all laboratories and assign
tasks to share the work
2. Decide methodologies, data collection and processing
3.Decide common software, a central data bank and communication
media 4. Draft proposals to be finalized and submitted to TDR for
consideration by the Steering Committee on Strategic Research
5 Develop plans for involving qualified scientists from
developing endemic countries both as collaborators and trainees
6. Draw up a plan of activities and time table.

Dr Modabber informed me that you have had previous discussions
about this meeting and you have indicated that you would like
to attend on behalf of NIH. I am therefore requesting Dr Win
Degrave, FIOCRUZ, by a copy of this message, to send you an
invitation. A provisional list of participants is attached for
your information. I hope that you will be able to attend. I
regret the short notice.
