See the recent publication from our centre (C. <br>Ravel's group: El Baidouri F. et al., PLoS NTD 2013). These are pretty <br>sound data obtained using whole sequences of seven different genes (on <br>90 infantum, 29 donovani and 9 archibaldi strains). In view of these, <br>the fact that one polymorphism (CPB gene) is sufficient for <br>distinguishing between these species has not been examined
by C. Ravel.<br>Yet, one cannot deny the epidemiological and clinical differences <br>between L. infantum and donovani. These remain to be explained.<br><br>With respect to the strains from Iraq and Kenya, the fact that these <br>strains are mentioned from such or such country does not necessarily <br>mean that this is authentic. These two have been validated as L. <br>donovani by isoenzymes in Montpellier; one of them (from Iraq) appears <br>authentic (isolated by David Evans himself in Wasit Province in 1981) <br>and I forgot to mention it in my previous message. However, the one <br>from Kenya has un unclear history (no year of isolation , 'isolator' <br>unknown), hence in our view is not reliable.<br>Cordialement<br>P.
