Patton was able to experimentally inoculate dogs from the isolates of L. donovani taken from the patients but failed to prove their presence in thousands of stray dogs that he examined almost a century back.</div>

Co- occurrence of L. donovani & L. infantum in India?</div><div> </div><div>The foot hills of Himalaya bordering India, Nepal little down south Bangladesh are sources of clinical, epidemiological (and sand fly vectors) reports for the presence of visceral leishmaniasis implying that L. donovani and L. infantum are potential sources of infection.</div>

We have other isolates but they were not corroborated by a publication, hence in our view dubious.<br>

Yes. I believe that there are several. But at least several<br>
identifications from Sudan in Montpellier: see Dereure et al. Microbes<br>
Infect. 2003 Oct;5(12):1103-8.<br>
Please note that molecular techniques are not reliable to distinguish<br>
between infantum and donovani, which makes dubious the data of this type<br>
drawn from molecular ID. The ones quoted above were dont by isoenzymes.<br>
