in the clinical sample for genetic analysis/species identification without
cultivation ? I still think it is important to do this just to make sure that
cultivation does not select something clinically irrelevant. If so, testing
their drug-sensitivity may or may not be informative. I don’t know if
the lesions contain abundant amastigotes or infected macrophages for ex vivo
evaluation of their drug-sensitivity. If so, one could think of several
different ways to do it in micro-scale.<u></u><u></u></span></font></p>

One of Dr. Bryceson's suggestions was to determine the sensitivity in
vitro of isolate(s) obtained from this patient. We have been doing this in
the lab (here in <u></u><u></u>Sao Paulo<u></u><u></u>)
and could easily determine the sensitivity of cultures taken from this patient.<br>
We would be ready to determine the sensitivity to antimonials, amphotericin B
and miltefosine. We do not have paromomycin or pentamidin at present, but I'm
sure we can find them somewhere. Just let me know...<br>
