<div><font color="#000000">The Seventh Annual Conference on New and
Re-Emerging Infectious Diseases will be held April 15-16, 2004. On
April 15, the Conference will be held at 5:00 p.m. at the Illini Union
of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The keynote speaker
will be Dr. Virginia L Miller, Department of Molecular Microbiology,
Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO (Invasin, RovA
and the Peyer's Patch in<i> Yersinia enterocolitica</i> infection). On
April 16, morning and afternoon sessions will be held at the Holiday
Inn Hotel in Urbana from 8:15 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Invited speakers and
topics include: Dr. André A. Dhondt, Department of Ecology and
Evolutionary Biology, Cornell University, NY (<i>Mycoplasma
gallisepticum</i> in house finches: the dynamics of an emerging
pathogen in an introduced host); Dr. Elizabeth Schmidt Didier,
Division of Microbiology and Immunology, Tulane National Primate
Research Center, Covington, LA (Microsporidiosis: an emerging and
opportunistic infection in humans and animals); Dr. James D. Bangs,
Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, University of
Wisconsin Medical School, Madison, WI (Differentiation and surface
coat exchange In African trypanosomes); Dr. Joseph Heitman,
Departments of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, Pharmacology and
Cancer Biology, and Medicine, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Duke
University Medical Center, Durham, NC (Sex and the evolution of
virulence in<i> Cryptococcus neoformans</i>); Dr. Samuel Stanley,
Departments of Medicine and Molecular Microbiology, Washington
University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO (New insights into
enteric infections from mouse-human chimeras); Dr. Olaf Schneewind,
Committee on Microbiology, University of Chicago, Chicago, IL
(Strategies to combat<i> Staphylococcus aureus</i> infection); Dr.
Jamie H. Maguire, Division of Parasitic Diseases, NIAID/NIH, Rocky
Mountain Laboratories, and National Center for Infectious Diseases,
Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Atlanta, GA (SARS--the
story of what happened in China). Those interested in presenting a
