Everybody was bitterly shocked when they heard that the WHO scientist,
<font color="#0000FF"><b>Carlo Urbani</b></font>, who discovered that a
dangerous new microbe was beginning to spread around the globe, died of
the same disease, now known as SARS, in a Bangkok hospital on the
29<sup>th</sup> March 2003. However, it was with great pride that I
learnt that Carlo was an expert in parasitic diseases of schoolchildren
who had worked in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. His insight into the
transmission SARS, and the preventative measures that this led to have
saved an incalculable number of lives throughout the world, but sadly not
his own. <br>
Would he have done
this without his intimate understanding of the way parasites are
transmitted?<br>
