Yesterday I had the very sad news from Belém that one of our oldest

<i>Leishmania </i>(<i>Leishmania</i>) <i>amazonensis </i>DCL cases had

taken his life. He acquired the disease over 30 years ago and it is

difficult to imagine the suffering and anguish of his day to day life. He

was an intelligent man who for many years was convinced that he would be

cured but unfortunately this did not happen. He had many remissions

during treatment but the clinical symptoms always returned. His case

draws attention to the monumental mental stress that such patients have

to cope with. Lets hope that one day we will be able to successful treat

DCL patients.<br><br>

May his soul rest in peace.<br><br>
