Dear colleagues,


Sadly, Alda Falcão one of Brazil’s most talented leaders in sand fly
taxonomy and an international reference, passed away on 31st September 2019
in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Her classical work with Almilcar
Viana Martins and Paul Williams led to the publication of their memorable
and pioneering book “American Sandflies” that contained important revisions
and descriptions of many New World phlebotomine species. We fondly remember
for forever her dedication, enthusiasm, good humor and humility. It was
indeed a privilege to have known her both in her laboratory and at
scientific venues such as the ISOPS, Worldleish and Entomol meetngs.


The medical entomology and leishmaniasis community pay tribute to this very
special colleague.
