<< Dear colleagues,

In Belo Horizonte we have a lot of problems with veterinary because their
National Association decided to treat the dogs. Then, about 30% the dogs
have been treated by leishmaniasis in my city. I think it’s a big problem,
but when we advised the Healthy Minister they didn’t believe.
In Araçatuba, the vets are treat the dogs, too.
I think the leishmaniasis in dogs will increase very quickly in São Paulo,
like in Belo Horizonte, because the dogs are susceptible, the owners moved
their dogs and the street dogs carry the disease. In Belo Horizonte, we have
4% dogs seropositive. We used to examine by ELISA and RIFI (IFI).
After five years, the local government spent with leishmaniasis control
 more than 2 millions dollars.
Sorry , but my English is not good enough.

In my clinic i treat dogs with amphotericin B (fungizone®) alone ( rapid
injection .5 to .8 mg/kg until a cumulative dosage of 12 mg/kg) (ive
published the results) and more recently with amb associated with lipids. I
first hyper hydrate dogs with mannitol and saline, and then the mixture with
lipids and amb (following walker and others recommendations) is slowly
infused. The first results show (the very first results and concerning very
few dogs, unpublished) that bone marrow is free of parasites (using pcr or
nnn cultivation) after 6 to 8 injections (1 to 2,1 mg/kg amb)

I know physicians dont like this french nouvelle cuisine but in dogs it
works.
