Leishmania (L.) archibaldi Castellani and Chalmers, 1919 = L.donovani var.
archibaldi Castellani and Chalmers, 1919 emend. Nicoli 1963. (Bull. Soc.

Known geographical distribution :South and central Sudan, East and South
Ethiopia, Djibouti, North Somalia, Chad, Niger, C.A.R. and the Congo.
Visceral Leishmaniasis
Recorded Mammalian hosts : Acomys albigens; Arvicanthis niloticus, Rattus
rattus; Genetta genetta and Felis serval,  and man. No dogs reported infected.
Sandfly host: Phlebotomus orientalis

N.B. Nobody has used Leishmania archibaldi as a 'keyword' on any database I
have access to since 1966; hence it is not in current use, BUT as some
"molecular" taxonomists are finding that L.donovani from Africa is different
L.donovani from India, perhaps some brave soul will defend its use and
resurrect it.
