Dear Dr. Kenney,
I read your e-mail message (Leishmanial conference), about your offer
for postdoctoral fellowship in research in the field of leishmania.
As I have some experiences in this topic especially (cultivation,
diagnosing), even from Afghanistan, I would like to extend deeply my
knowledge in this, for me so interesting field.
Therefore, I would like to learn more details of your proposing
position, and if possible, I would like to start working at your
program.
I am sending to you my CV, and for any additional information, please contact
me thru e-mail address: cerven at fns.uniba.sk
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon

Work experience
Research Assistant February - August 1987
After receiving my RNDr. degree in January 1987, I worked at Comenius University's
Department of Zoology. I worked as an assistant to Assoc. Prof. Ladislav Jedlicka, PhD.,
who was doing research on Simuliidae (Diptera).
Military service (Afghanistan)
While serving in the Afghani army, I worked in a laboratory at a military hospital,
where I gained more experiences in the diagnosis of parasitic diseases (including
malaria, leishmaniasis). The results were later published (see below).
Teaching assistant
After discharge from military service I worked as a teaching assistant in the Department
of Microbiology at Balkh College of Medicine in the town Mazar-e-Sharif, in Afghanistan.
There I worked with M. L. Amiri, MD, from the Institute of Malaria and Parasitic diseases.
The results "Occurrence of cutaneous leishmaniosis in the province of Balkh (Northern
Afghanistan) between 1989 - 1994" of our research were presented in 1995
at an International Symposium in Kosice (Slovakia).
Phd thesis
I defended my PhD thesis "The species diversity, man biting activity and
virological testing of mosquitoes in Western Slovakia", in 1994.
Main published articles and conference lectures
"Occurrence of malaria in some Northern Afghanistan's Provinces between 1991 - 1994."
Lecture at a Slovak scientific conference in 1995: "Actual Problems
in Human Parasitology."
"The results of virological testing of mosquitoes in western Slovakia." Part of
my dissertation thesis, lectured at a Czech and Slovak scientific conference
in 1994: "Dipterological Conference" in Donovaly (Slovakia).
"The parasitic infections of soldiers of a division in the province of Baghlan
(Afghanistan) recorded during 1988." Biologia, Bratislava, 48/6: 615 - 618, 1993
Delivered as a lecture in 1992 at the 35th annual conference of Czechoslovak
parasitologists in Bratislava (Slovakia).
"Intestinal parasitic protozoa in laboratory animal breeds." Bratislavske lekarske
listy, 90, 1, 42-44, 1989.
"Mosquitoes of the Malacky town and surrounding area." Dipt. Bohemoslovaca, 6, 63 - 67, 1993
"Mosquitoes of the Slovak part of the Morava flood plain area.' Ecology (Bratislava)
Suppl. 1/1994, p. 185 - 188. These results were presented as a lecture
at the Slovak - Austrian conference, 1993
"Parasitic diseases in Afghanistan." Unpublished. This lecture was presented in 1985
at Comenius University's Faculty of Medicine, as a part of the Faculty
Scientific Conference. Since I was not a student of the Faculty of Medicine,
I was technically not allowed to participate in this competition, but the judges
awarded this lecture with a certificate of honourable mention.
"Biological Features of Leishmania major isolated from a Czechoslovak citizen." Unpublished.
This lecture was delivered in 1984 as a part of the Faculty scientific conference
